Premier League: Spurs set for ultimate test in Manchester

It doesn’t get any tougher than heading to the home of the European and English champions but that’s the challenge that awaits Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham as they head to Manchester City on Monday.

Following a strong start to the Premier League season, Spurs have hit the rocks in recent weeks with three straight defeats at the hands of Chelsea, Wolves and Aston Villa.

Things won’t get any easier when the Lilywhites make the trip north to Manchester and Monday will provide a good acid test to see how Postecoglou’s side match up against Pep Guardiola’s European champions.

Unbeaten in their first 10 games of the Premier League campaign, Spurs have shown that missing just a few first-team players can knock them off their stride.

England midfielder James Maddison made an excellent start to the season and he has been sorely missed since suffering an ankle injury against Chelsea.

That 4-1 loss to the Blues has had a lasting effect on Postecoglou’s side, in a game that also saw Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie both red-carded.

Injuries and suspensions have derailed the positive start Spurs made to the season and now they have a big test of character against City.

Guardiola’s side got back to winning ways against RB Leipzig in the Champions League in midweek after back-to-back draws in the Premier League against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Spurs do have a strong recent record in their fixture, winning three of their last four meetings with the Citizens.

Tottenham are 3.50 in the Double Chance market to earn a win or a draw at the Etihad Stadium in the early hours of Monday morning.

Magpies and Red Devils looking for response

After frustrating results in the Champions League in midweek, both Newcastle and Manchester United will be hoping to bounce back when they clash at St James’ Park on Sunday.

The Magpies were seconds away from picking up a famous win against Paris Saint-Germain but a controversially-given late penalty at the Parc des Princes saw the spoils shared in the French capital.

It was also a night to forget for United, as they squandered a 2-0 lead to draw 3-3 at Galatasaray.

Just one point separates these two sides in the Premier League standings, with United in sixth spot and Newcastle tucked in just behind them in seventh.

Newcastle are 1.90 for the win at St James’ Park, with the Red Devils at 3.80 to claim the three points. A draw is available at 3.75.

Big battle at the bottom

Down at the bottom of the Premier League standings, 20th-place Burnley are preparing to host 18th-place Sheffield United at Turf Moor.

These sides have struggled at this early stage of the season following promotion from the Championship.

Having played 26 games collectively, these two sides have only managed two wins between them.

This looks to be a must-win game for both clubs, with Burnley at 1.80 to claim the three points on Sunday and the Blades at 4.50 for the victory.
