Australian Racing: Step to brush Warwick Farm rivals Aside

There are five meetings scheduled to take place on Monday, including at Warwick Farm.

Race 7 Warwick Farm

Step Aside @ 4.60

Race 5 Warwick Farm

Eau de Vie @ 4.40

Race 6 Ballina

Do It For You @ 2.70

Aside backed for Farm victory

The penultimate race on Warwick Farm's eight-race card takes the eye, with the 1300m Benchmark 72 contest having attracted a strong-looking field.

The James Cummings-trained Selous has shown good form in four starts this spell, including when delivering a one-and-a-half-length success over 1300m at Kembla Grange May 27th.

That Kemble Grange triumph came when racing at Class 1, having delivered second-placed finishes in each of his three previous outings this time around.

The step up to this distance appeared to suit last time out and, while he rates a leading contender, preference is for STEP ASIDE who broke his maiden at Kembla Grange last month.

The three-year-old was racing first up on that occasion and followed up with a good half-length second over 1400m on a good 4 track at this venue subsequently.

The drop back to 1300m should hold no issues for jockey Jason Collett, who will have options tactics-wise jumping from next to the rail.

Racing on his home track 4.60 Step Aside looks capable of registering a second career victory.

Vie expected to score

Earlier on the card EAU DE VIE goes in search of a victory for the Richard and Will Freedman team in the fifth race of the day.

The race in question is a 1600m Benchmark 64 handicap restricted to three and four-year-olds.

The daughter of Snitzel delivered three consecutive placed efforts prior to getting off the mark in impressive fashion with a near three-and-a-half-length victory at Kembla Grange.

That maiden triumph back in May came in a 1600m contest held on a Good 4 track, with the 4.40 pick delivering a solid mid-field finish in the Group 3 Adrian Knox at Randwick subsequently.

That effort marked the filly's first over 2000m and she was freshened up following that effort.

The selection was beaten just a length when contesting a 1300m Class 1 contest on a soft 5 track at Hawkesbury.

The return to this 1600m is a positive here and, with a good alley six off the rail, Eau de Vie is taken to record a victory.

You likely to remain unbeaten

The penultimate race on Ballina's seven-race card takes the eye, with the lightly-raced Smart City expected to have his supporters ahead of the 1590m Class 1 contest.

A soft 6 track is expected here with the Allan Chau-trained gelding having broken his maiden over 1400m at Gatton on his penultimate start.

The gelding delivered a near six-length victory on that occasion and again performed well when runner-up on his first start against previous winners at Sunshine Coast on May 26th.

That effort saw the gelding beaten a length on a good 4 track and he has placed in wet conditions in the past.

DO IT FOR YOU is selected to defend his unbeaten record here, however.

The son of Harbinger gained plenty of experience in three outings in barrier trials, including when fourth over 1010m at Murwillumbah 11 days before debuting at Lismore May 26th.

Racing from behind the speed in a 1410m maiden at Lismore on his only previous start, the 2.70 pick asserted in the straight, drawing three lengths clear of his 13 rivals.

That Lismore victory came on a soft 5 track and, while he lacks the experience of his rivals here, he remains open to improvement and looks up to defending his unbeaten record.
