Aussie Rules: Suns out to shine at MCG

Gold Coast Suns will be looking to boost their finals hopes and pile more misery on Carlton in the process when the two sides clash on Sunday.

The Suns are within touching distance of the top eight and are starting to string some results together. The next test is to do it away from the Gold Coast on a more regular basis.

Carlton’s season continues to go from bad to worse and they will be desperate to snap a losing streak that has stretched to six games.

The Blues sit 10 points away from the top eight and unless there is a big turnaround they look set to miss out on finals once again.

Carlton are in the last-chance saloon as far as making finals is concerned and they need a result against the Suns at the MCG.

Blues desperate for the win

Carlton have won just one game in the last nine and that was against a West Coast Eagles side that have won just one match all season.

It has been a dramatic collapse for the Blues, who were unbeaten in their first four games of the season, winning three of them.

The poor run of form means only North Melbourne, Hawthorn and West Coast sit below them on the ladder and the pressure is mounting on coach Michael Voss.

The members are getting restless and nothing less than a win against the Gold Coast will do.

They slipped to a 34-point defeat against Essendon last week and were also brushed aside by Collingwood and Western Bulldogs in their previous two home games.

Despite their struggles, Carlton do have quality players in their ranks, but something clearly isn’t working.

Charlie Curnow has kicked 40 goals this season, while midfielder Adam Cerra is averaging 27.3 disposals a game.

Curnow is also averaging almost eight score involvements a game and will again be key to Carlton’s chances of getting the win. He is priced at 5.50 to kick the first goal.

Suns shining bright

The Gold Coast Suns are making a very strong case to play finals this season after winning three of the last four games.

They currently sit 11th on the ladder, one win away from the top eight, and could edge closer with another win over Carlton.

The Suns have won six and lost six so far this season, and just two of those wins have come away from the Gold Coast.

One of those wins did come in Melbourne against Richmond, but was at Marvel Stadium rather than the MCG. The other was over in Perth against West Coast Eagles.

Confidence should be very high however after back-to-back wins over the Adelaide Crows and Western Bulldogs, two sides that are sitting in the eight.

Gold Coast will fancy their chances of getting the win at the MCG and are priced at 5.50 to win by 1-12 points.

Jack Lukosius was a revelation in the win over Adelaide when kicking five goals and 11 score involvements.

The key forward is priced at 1.14 to score again at anytime and 9.50 to kick the first goal of the game.
