Super Rugby: Brumbies and Reds ready for Kiwi clashes

Sunday will provide a good early-season acid test for both the Brumbies and the Reds as they face the Chiefs and the Hurricanes respectively in a doubleheader at AAMI Park

The Brumbies, fresh from their 30-3 win over the Rebels at AAMI Park, are again at the Melbourne ground this weekend to face the Chiefs.

The Reds also made a winning start to the new Super Rugby campaign with an impressive 40-22 victory over the Waratahs at Suncorp Stadium and next face the Hurricanes in the second game of this Sunday double.

Looking to go two for two after the opening couple of rounds of the season, here’s what to expect from Sunday’s encounters in Melbourne.

Brumbies can see how they rate

·         What: Chiefs v Brumbies
·         Where: AAMI Park, Melbourne
·         When: 13:00 (AEST) Sunday 3rd March
·         How to watch: Stan Sport
·         Odds: Chiefs 1.33, Brumbies 3.35

Against a Chiefs side that only lost one regular season game last year and reached the grand final, the Brumbies get a good acid test on Sunday.

Stephen Larkham's side did a good job dispatching the Rebels in their opening game of the campaign but will face a much sterner test against the Chiefs, who themselves earned a 33-29 home win over the Crusaders in a repeat of last season’s final.

Even though the Crusaders outscored the Chiefs by four tries to three, the boot of Damian McKenzie helped steer the Hamilton outfit to victory.

The Chiefs are the favourites at 1.33 to come away from AAMI Park with the victory this weekend, while the Brumbies are 3.35 to make it back-to-back wins at the start of the season to really grab the attention of the rest of Super Rugby.

Reds must weather Hurricanes storm

·         What: Hurricanes v Reds
·         Where: AAMI Park, Melbourne
·         When: 15:30 (AEST) Sunday 3rd March
·         How to watch: Stan Sport
·         Odds: Hurricanes 1.28, Reds 3.75

A comprehensive start to the season was enjoyed by the Reds as they ran out comfortable winners over the Waratahs in Round 1.

Hooker Matt Faessler went over for a brace of tries over the course of the game, as the Reds pulled away in the second half at Suncorp Stadium.

It was the start new Reds head coach Les Kiss would have been hoping for and now he too will get to see how his side stacks up against a strong Hurricanes outfit.

The Hurricanes made light work of Western Force in their opening game, winning 44-14 at HBF Park.

It’s all set for an intriguing showdown in Melbourne this weekend, with the Hurricanes the favourites at 1.28 to maintain their winning start to the season.

The Reds should certainly not be underestimated though and are 3.75 to cause an upset at AAMI Park.
