Super Rugby: Brumbies can add to Force’s woes

Saturday offers up four games from Super Rugby with three Australian clubs in action in both Canberra and Brisbane.

The GIO Stadium is preparing for an all-Aussie affair, as the Brumbies look to add to Western Force’s woes at the bottom of the table.

That game in the capital is followed by a big test for the Reds in Brisbane, as they prepare to welcome last season’s grand finalists the Chiefs to Suncorp Stadium.

Force face Brumbies challenge

. What: Brumbies v Force
. Where: GIO Stadium, Canberra
. When: 13:35 (AEST), Saturday 9th March 2024
. How to watch: Stan Sports
. Odds: Brumbies 1.071, Force 8.00

The Brumbies were the standout Australian club side in Super Rugby last season and early signs this year is that the trend will continue.

Stephen Larkham’s side earned a 30-3 win at the Rebels in their opening game, before they were brought back down to earth with a 46-12 defeat to the Chiefs.

Expect the Brumbies to bounce back at the first time of asking, as they are firm favourites at 1.071 to overcome the Force at GIO Stadium.

Western Force look set for a long season after conceding 92 points in their first two games of the campaign against the Hurricanes and the Rebels.

The Brumbies are capable of putting up another big score on Saturday and are available at 1.91 win -17.5 in the Line market.

Reds set for good acid test

. What: Reds v Chiefs
. Where: Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
. When: 18:35 (AEST), Saturday 9th March 2024
. How to watch: Stan Sports
. Odds: Reds 4.33, Chiefs 1.22

The Chiefs only lost one regular season game last season and the Hamilton outfit will certainly provide the Reds with their toughest match of the campaign so far.

With two wins from two, the Chiefs have made a solid start and once again look like serious contenders to go all the way after losing in the grand final last season to the Crusaders.

As for the Reds, a 40-22 win over the Waratahs was a solid start, before they suffered a 38-33 defeat against the Hurricanes at AAMI Park last time out.

The Hurricanes look strong this season so that result was certainly no disgrace but the challenge against the Chiefs will be even tougher for Les Kiss’s side this weekend.

Queensland Reds are the 4.33 underdogs to claim the win on home soil at Suncorp, while the hosts are available at +10.5 to fall on the right side of the Line market.

The last five encounters between these sides in Super Rugby have been decided by a single-figure margin, which suggests backing the Reds on the handicap could be the way to go on this one.
