Super Rugby: Reds and Brumbies set for Brisbane battle

The top two Australian sides on the Super Rugby Pacific ladder go head-to-head on Saturday as the Reds host the Brumbies at Suncorp Stadium.

Queensland Reds have made a solid start to the season, with three wins from five games for the Brisbane outfit.

However, their shock 40-31 defeat at strugglers Western Force last time out left many with big questions about this Reds side and their chances of grand final success this season.

Saturday provides another stern test against a Brumbies team that have claimed four wins from five and sit in third place on the ladder.

It makes for what could be the pick of the weekend’s games, as the two strongest Australian teams battle it out for supremacy in Brisbane.

What: Reds v Brumbies
Where: Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
When: 18:35, Saturday 30th March 2024
How to watch: Stan Sport
Odds: Reds 1.60, Brumbies 2.35

Reds need response

Blown away in the first half by the Force in Perth, the Reds will know they need a much stronger start on Saturday against the Brumbies.

The Reds were expected to run riot themselves at HBF Park but came up against a determined Force side that produced their performance of the season so far.

It will have been a humbling defeat for Les Kiss and his side, who will now be eager to get back to winning ways on home soil this weekend.

The Reds will also be looking for revenge after their 52-24 home defeat at the hands of the Brumbies the last time they met.

Winning their last two games at Suncorp after claiming just one win in their previous four, the Reds have started to make their home a tougher place for opposition teams.

The Reds are 1.60 favourites to win but they will know they will need to improve dramatically in defence if they are to claim a fourth win of the season and end a two-game losing streak against the Brumbies.

Brumbies must improve on the road

Winning two of their last five games away from GIO Stadium, Brumbies head coach Stephen Larkham will know there is room for improvement for his side on their travels.

A 60-21 win over Moana Pasifika will have certainly boosted confidence in the Brumbies’ squad as they prepare for Saturday’s trip to Suncorp Stadium.

There should be an interesting battle of the fly-halves, with Noah Lolesio and Tom Lynagh going head-to-head.

Both players will look to find the balance of a territorial battle, while also looking for opportunities to go with ball in hand when chances arise.

The Brumbies are 2.35 to make it three wins on the spin against the Reds, while the visitors are also available at 1.91 in the Line market with +3.5.
