Sydney Thunder v Sydney Sixers preview: In-form James Vince to star with the bat

The Sydney-based outfits do battle in Big Bash 2022/23 on Sunday when the Thunder take on the Sixers at Sydney Showground Stadium.

The Sixers are second in the standings, one point behind table-toppers the Perth Scorchers, while the Thunder are two points off the summit in third position.

Both teams are very much in the hunt for the title and neither will want their momentum to be stopped in Sunday's clash, as the race for silverware continues to heat up.

James Vince has been the star player for the Sixers during this edition of the Big Bash, with his unbeaten 91 helping his side to an important victory over the Melbourne Stars last time out.

The 31-year-old has amassed 258 runs in total from eight innings - leaving him fourth in the overall runs chart - while he boasts an impressive 43.00 average.

Unfortunately for the Sixers, this will be Vince's final outing of BBL 12, as it will be for teammate Chris Jordan, but the in-form batter will be hoping to go out with a bang.

The Englishman has plundered 24 fours and cleared the rope seven times in the competition and it is hard to ignore the 3/1 on him to be his team's Top Batter, while the 15/2 Bet Boost on him to be Player of the Match is also worth considering.

Hales to depart on high note

Another player featuring in his final Big Bash game is Alex Hales of the Thunder. The 34-year-old has enjoyed another solid campaign Down Under, amassing 235 runs from eight innings with a 35.00 average.

The Englishman, who played a key part in his country's recent T20 World Cup success, is one of the most destructive players in limited-overs cricket when he gets going.

Clearing the rope no less than nine times, Hales has that extra power to take the game to the bowlers and it would be no surprise to see him end as his team's Top Batter at 13/5 on Sunday.

Aussie shining with the ball

The Sixers have a solid bowling unit to choose from but one player that has really stepped up is all-rounder Sean Abbott, who leads his team's bowling statistics with 13 wickets.

The 30-year-old has a lot of experience in limited-overs cricket and his subtle variations have helped him take some crucial wickets throughout the tournament so far.

Abbott took 3/31 in the victory over the Stars last time out, ending as his team's Top Bowler, and it is 12/5 for him to repeat this on Sunday.

Sixers to end up on top

There is little to separate these two heading into the Sydney clash and it may just come down to who can hold their nerve at the crucial moments, something which the Sixers have done recently.

Greg Shipperd's men have won five of last seven matches, with one of those games a no-result, so the confidence is clearly flowing and they can use this to get over the line against the Thunder.

There is no doubt this will be a difficult contest for the Sixers, especially given the fact their opponents are on a four-game winning streak, but there is just the feeling Shipperd's troops have that little bit extra to get the job done.

At 4/5 To Win the Match, the Sixers are worth taking on at that price and delivering a big victory in their pursuit of table-toppers the Perth Scorchers.
