Australian Racing: Takara Star can dazzle at Muswellbrook

There are five meetings set to take place on Monday with a metro fixture at Warwick Farm the highlight.

Race 6 Warwick Farm

Extremely Lucky @ 3.00

Race 5 Ballarat

Favourite Child @ 3.40

Race 4 Muswellbrook

Takara Star @ 6.00

Lucky for Warwick Farm success

The sixth race at Warwick Farm is an eight runner Benchmark 100 contest set to take place over 1000m on a soft 6 track.

The James Cummings team look to hold strong claims of taking this with their four-year-old Spacewalk.

The gelding showed good winning form at three including when successful over 1200m in a Benchmark 88 handicap at Rosehill at the end of January.

James McDonald’s mount subsequently went on to prove that he can perform at a higher level finishing close up in a couple of Group 3 contests including at Sunshine Coast in early May.

The son of Exosphere has performed well on wet tracks in the past, including when runner-up over 1110m at Doomben in May, while he ended that spell with a Listed victory at Randwick.

The drop back in distance here isn’t certain to suit however, and the race fit EXTREMELY LUCKY is taken to deliver a victory here.

While the gelding has been able to score in two starts this spell, it’s of note that he has performed with credit on each occasion including when three-lengths fifth at Rosehill on 9th September.

That Rosehill race was a Benchmark 88 handicap held over 1100m, a race which saw the selection finish strongly having been ridden from off the pace.

Kerrin McEvoy’s mount has a good barrier in four here and, having shown a liking for this venue in the past, he is taken to deliver a victory receiving weight from his main rival.

Child to score for Maher

There’s an interesting Benchmark 58 handicap set to take place over 1400m on a good 4 track at Ballarat.

The race in question is the fifth race of the day with Matriarch Rose, a debut winner in the wet at Ipswich in October last year, expected to have her supporters.

The four-year-old returned this campaign with a fourth in a 1300m Restricted 64 handicap on a good 4 track at Bendigo last month.

While the filly is expected to have improved for her first run of 2023, it can pay to oppose her with FAVOURITE CHILD the selection here.

The filly showed good form when debuting with a four length second in a 1300m maiden on a heavy 8 surface at Echuca in July.

A good fourth over 1500m in a Sandown Lakeside maiden plate followed, prior to the pick making all the running to salute by nearly three-and-a-half-lengths in a 1400m maiden back at Echuca.

That Echuca triumph came on a good 4 track and similar underfoot conditions are expected here.

Trained by Ciaron Maher & David Eustace, the daughter of Dundeel has a good barrier two off the rail and is taken to complete a double tackling winners for the first time.

Star to shine at Muswellbrook

Trainer Kristen Buchanan boasts an impressive 38% strike-rate (6/16) at Muswellbrook in the last 12 months and TAKARA STAR in the fourth race of the day is one of two runners on the card for her.

The selection registered a maiden victory by nearly three lengths when taking out a 1280m contest on a good 4 track in March.

The mare followed that effort up with a half-length triumph in a Benchmark 58 handicap over the same course and distance on a soft 6 track at the end of that month.

The five-year-old has been spelled since that most recent victory and she is taken to overcome a wide alley to complete a hat-trick.
