Australian Racing: Taketheshot targets Tamworth triumph

There's five meetings set to take place on Friday including at Swan Hill in Victoria where a heavy 10 track is expected.

Race 7 Swan Hill

Yulong Storm @ 4.60

Race 5 Dubbo

East Harlem @ 4.80

Race 7 Tamworth

Taketheshot @ 8.00

Storm for Swan Hill success

The most valuable race on the Swan Hill card is the $150,000 Golden Topaz, due off as the seventh race on an eight-race card.

Sacred Palace had legitimate excuses having returned lame when disappointing in finishing ninth in a Benchmark 90 event over 1100m down the straight at Flemington last time.

Beau Merten's mount is expected to have his supporters having placed third in the Listed Wangoom Handicap over 1200m at Warrnambool 17 days earlier.

That Warnnambool effort came on a heavy 10 surface however a wide alley in 13 is a negative in this event.

Course regular YULONG STORM has been racing at a lower level in recent times including when runner-up in a Benchmark 70 event over 1100m at Flemington earlier this month.

That marked the Nathan Hobson-trained gelding's third top-three finish in his last four starts, a run that also includes a one-and-a-half-length Benchmark 64 success at Ballarat last month.

Madison Lloyd's mount gets in off a nice racing weight and may prove up to springing a surprise racing on a track the son of Scat Daddy has won half of his six starts on.

Harlem for Dubbo glory

The fifth race at Dubbo is an interesting Class 1 handicap with Life's A Party expected to jump as favourite for the 1100m contest.

A good 4 track is expected here with the four-year-old having confirmed the promise she showed when winning a barrier trial last July when debuting with a win at Orange in December.

That Orange triumph came when racing from the front from barrier 11 in a 1000m maiden on a soft 5 track.

The quicker ground expected here should prove no issue however she comes into this without a public trial this year and looks opposable with EAST HARLEM the selection.

Trained by Brett Thompson the three-year-old has placed on both starts this time around with both of those efforts coming when racing at Benchmark 58 level last month.

The most recent of those saw the pick beaten less than half-a-length in a 1200m handicap at Bathurst on 25th May. The shorter distance here is no issue having placed second over 1000m prior.

The pick is well drawn in four here and with Nick Heywood keeping the ride he is selected to deliver a victory.

Taketheshot for Tamworth triumph

The seventh race at Tamworth takes the eye with TAKETHESHOT looking to hold strong claims of delivering a victory in the 1400m Benchmark 58 handicap.

The selection finished down the field in a Class 3 event at Gosford on his penultimate start but good runs at this venue sandwich that effort including a head win at this venue.

That victory, back in early April came over 1200m in a Class 2 handicap contest held on a good 4 surface.

Similar underfoot conditions are expected here and while Mitchell Bell's mount has to overcome a wide draw he is a tactically versatile type which should help here.

The five-year-old has to concede weight to all bar one of his rivals but looks to hold strong claims doing just that.

Added to this that the pick hails from a stable with a 24% strike-rate (7/29) at this track so far this season and Taketheshot can enhance that here.
