At an event that will see the great Rafael Nadal call time on what has been an illustrious career, Australia will be hoping they can spoil the party at the 112th edition of the Davis Cup.
Having won 22 Grand Slams during a stellar career, this tournament at the Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga, Spain will be the last opportunity to see Nadal in competitive action.
Backed by the home crowd, many will be wanting to see Nadal end his playing career on a high but rival nations, including Australia will have other plans.
After finishing as losing finalists in the last two years, Australia will be hoping they can return to the showpiece final and go one better this time around.
Australia have a rich history in this competition, having won the title on 28 previous occasions.
This year the team, captained by Lleyton Hewitt, will be made up of Thanasi Kokkinakis, Matthew Ebden, Alexei Popyrin, Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson.
Taking on the USA in the quarter-final, it should be a tight contest between two nations who are a similar price to go all the way and claim the title on Spanish soil this month.
The Davis Cup semi-finals, in which Australia will be hoping to be involved with, will take place on Friday 22nd November and Saturday 23rd November, with the final scheduled for Sunday 24th November.
Currently the fourth favourites to go all the way and lift the trophy, Australia have a squad with plenty of experience that can challenge for the crown in Malaga.
There’s little doubt that Nadal will be the main attraction for many of the fans who are lucky enough to attend this year’s highly-competitive Davis Cup Finals.
A player who provided some of the sport’s great moments, Nadal will be doing all he can to squeeze every last bit of quality out of his body before calling time on a remarkable career.
Spain are certainly fancied as one of the favourites to claim the title this year but it’s Italy who are the shortest price to come out on top.
