The Ashes: 2025/26 dates, venues and records

The biggest rivalry in Test cricket will return in 2025/26 when England return Down Under to take on Australia in The Ashes series.

Cricket Australia have announced the dates and venues for the five-match Test series, which is sure to provide the usual tension, excitement and drama.

Australia are the current holders of the Ashes and are the hot fancies at 1.61 to win the series outright.

A drawn series, which would see Australia retain the Ashes, can be backed at 6.50, while England can be backed at 3.50 to win.

Now the dates are locked in, the planning can begin, with the ‘Barmy Army’ travelling in numbers with the hope that Ben Stokes and his side can cause an upset.

Ashes to begin in Perth

Cricket Australia have announced that the 2025/26 Ashes series will begin at Perth’s Optus Stadium on 21st November.

It means for the first time in over 40 years, the Gabba in Brisbane will not host the opening Ashes Test.

It will also be the first time Australia and England will play a Test match at Optus Stadium, which was built in 2017.

The previous 13 meetings were played at the iconic WACA, which was something of a fortress for the Australians.

The Ashes series will then move on to the Gabba for the second Test, which will get underway on 4th December, before the third Test at the Adelaide Oval on 17th December.

Melbourne and the MCG will of course host the famous Boxing Day Test, while the series will be concluded at the SCG in Sydney from 4th January.

England out to cause an upset

England have not had much success on Australian soil in recent Ashes series.

Indeed you have to go back to the 2010/11 series, when captained by Andrew Strauss, England won the series 3-1.

The time before that was way back in 1986/87 when England won 2-1, which shows the mammoth task that lies ahead for Stokes and his side.

There will be some familiar faces missing when England make the trip, with both Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson now retired.

The new-look bowling attack currently features Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts and Shoaib Bashir.

However Stokes, Joe Root, Harry Brook and Zak Crawley, who are all more familiar to the Australian supporters, will be in the side.

Australia the hot fancies

Australia have held the Ashes for the last four series, winning two on home soil, and drawing two in England.

Both series in England have ended in a 2-2 draw, while Australia have won the two ‘home’ series 4-0.

The Australian side should have a very familiar look to it, with the now retired David Warner, the only big name missing.

Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith will of course be a huge threat with the bat, while the usual bowling attack should strike fear into England.

Skipper Pat Cummins will lead it and should be backed up by Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and spin king Nathan Lyon.
