Australian Racing: The Manager can take charge at Kempsey

There are two meetings set to take place on Monday with both Bathurst and Kempsey due to race.

Race 7 Bathurst

Brogans Creek @ 6.00

Race 2 Kempsey

The Manager @ 3.20

Race 6 Kempsey

Roman Rebel @ 4.40

Creek for Bathurst success

The concluding race on the Bathurst card is an interesting 1100m Benchmark 58 handicap, with Cumnock expected to have his supporters for in-form hoop Clayton Gallagher.

Gallagher boasts an impressive 39% strike-rate (20/52) in the last 30 days and his mount here has placed in three of his four starts this spell.

The most recent of those saw the four-year-old lose out by half-a-length in a Class 1 handicap held over this distance at Narromine earlier this month.

The gelding missed the break on that occasion, having been awkwardly away from the barriers when third over 1280m in a similar event at Muswellbrook prior.

The son of Outreach has a good barrier in six, however, preference here is for veteran campaigner BROGANS CREEK who carries top weight here.

The seven-year-old has shown good form at this Benchmark 58 level in the past, including when victorious over 1300m on a soft 5 track at Dubbo in June.

The pick has placed fourth in three of his four subsequent starts, including when beaten two lengths in a Benchmark 66 handicap held on a good 4 track back at Dubbo when racing first up this spell.

Trained by Toby Pracey, the gelding faced a stiff task when tackling the Montrose Mudgee Cup Day Sprint over 1200m at Mudgee subsequently and the drop in grade he gets here is in his favour.

Jockey Ronald Simpson takes one-and-a-half-kilogram’s off and Brogans Creek is taken to defy top weight to deliver his fourth career win.

Manager for maiden glory

The second race at Kempsey is an interesting 1450m maiden plate contest due to take place on a good 4 track.

Tosen Dreamer has shown good form in maiden company including when placing in each of five starts.

Those five starts include two this spell with the most recent coming when third over 1250m at Ballina earlier this month.

Jockey Matthew McGuren, on board that day is again in the saddle here, however, the percentage call is to oppose his mount who has had plenty of opportunities to break her maiden.

Three-year-old THE MANAGER recorded some solid placed efforts in barrier trials, including when third over 945m at Grafton on 16th November.

The pick went on to show plenty of promise when recording a fifth, having raced from off the pace in a 1205m maiden held on a soft 5 track at Coffs Harbour at the end of last month.

While none of those ahead of him that day have won since, it's notable that the ninth home Working Capital has registered a victory on his only subsequent start.

Jockey Aaron Bullock’s mount has an inside barrier here and is taken to break his maiden at the second time of asking.

Rebel can return with victory

The McGuren team can gain compensation in the sixth race on the Kempsey card, with trainer Samantha and jockey Matthew teaming up with ROMAN REBEL.

The gelding debuted with a victory over 1200m in a maiden contest at Coffs Harbour in February and, while he failed to win in two subsequent starts, he acquitted himself well on each occasion.

The second of those saw the son of Caravaggio beaten less than one-and-a-half-lengths in a 1310m Benchmark 58 handicap held on a soft 5 track at Ballina in April.

The selection hasn’t been seen in race action since but did deliver a second place finish in a 1010m barrier trial back at Ballina earlier this month and he looks up to saluting racing first up here.
