AFL: The Showdown takes centre stage

It is time for ‘The Showdown’ once again as Adelaide and Port Adelaide go head-to-head in the big derby clash on Saturday night.

There is no love lost between these two sides and tension is starting to hot up ahead of the Adelaide Oval showdown.

Port Adelaide have been a cut above the Crows this season, as the ladder position shows, but all that goes out of the window when a derby is being played.

The Crows have already beaten Port this season, and they could do with another to keep their slim hopes of making the top eight alive.

It is a tough one to call, but one thing that is pretty much guaranteed, there will be fireworks as these two fierce rivals battle it out for pride and crucial points.

Adelaide have hit a poor run of form at just the wrong time, winning just one game in the last five, which has damaged their top eight hopes.

They can take heart from the performances against Melbourne and Collingwood, when they slipped to narrow defeats, and we could be in for another close one here.

The Crows lost by four to the Demons and by two to the Pies and they can be backed at 6.00 to win by 1-12 points if it goes to the wire once again.

This same fixture in 2022 also saw the Crows win by just four points.

Adelaide have already beaten the Power once this season. It was right at the start of the campaign and they did it with relative ease, winning by 31 points as the away team.

Now they will have the backing off their own supporters and will be hoping it can make the difference.

They can take heart also from the fact they have won two of the last three Showdowns.

In Taylor Walker the Crows do have a player that can rise to the big occasion. The forward has booted 54 goals already this season and is priced at 9.00 to kick the first of the game.

They will also look to Jordan Dawson who is averaging 27.7 disposals a game this season.

Port look to bounce back

Port have had an outstanding season and currently sit second the ladder. However they have hit a sticky patch with back-to-back defeats halting their progress.

The two-point defeat against Collingwood in the top-of-the-ladder clash will have stung them, but they have a great chance to bounce back in another big game.

It is crucial they finish the season strongly and claim a top-two spot, but Brisbane Lions are now just one win away from them.

The remaining five games of the regular season should hold no fear, but now is not the time to go on a losing streak.

The Power will be missing Willie Rioli through suspension, but they are boosted by the return of Darcy Byrne-Jones, who has recovered from concussion.

Otherwise coach Ken Hinkley looks set to keep faith with the troops that have served him so well this season.

Charlie Dixon will be key and is priced at 10.00 to kick the first goal.
