Australian Racing: Think It Over worth considering

There’s Group 1 action at Randwick with the 2023 renewal of the $1,000,000 Winx Stakes over 1400m the feature race of the day.

There are also a number of other meetings including metro action from Caulfield, Doomben, Belmont Park and Morphettville Parks.

Think for Winx glory

The winner of this race two years ago Mo’unga will jump from barrier 16 as he bids to deliver a second victory in the 1400m contest.

Trained by Annabel Neasham is without a win since saluting on that occasion and while he has failed to score since he has a number of placed efforts to his name.

The six-year-old’s last spell saw him place three times at Group 1 level, including when beaten two-and-a-half-lengths into second in the 2000m Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick in April.

While it’s dangerous to write off Sam Clipperton’s mount, his wide alley is a negative here and it can pay to look elsewhere.

Stablemate Zaaki looks to be the Neasham first string, having shown strong form at Group 1 level in the past.

The nine-year-old has shown his best recent form over around 2000m and while he disappointed in the Group 1 Doomben Cup over that trip in May he has won first up in the past.

THINK IT OVER is preferred on this occasion however, having shown a liking for the heavy going forecast when saluting by half-a-length in the 2000m Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes in April.

The pick came home half-a-length clear of his rivals on that occasion and also placed at the highest level in the Group 1 Australian Cup over the same distance at Flemington in March.

Nash Rawiller’s mount resumed in his last spell with a comfortable victory in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes over this track and trip and, having run well in this race in 2021, he is taken to salute here.

Attrition to score at Caulfield

Mr Brightside ended his last spell with a narrow victory in the 1600m Group 1 Doncaster Mile on a heavy 9 track at Randwick in April.

The six-year-old was completing a double having previously taken out the All-Star Mile over the same distance at Moonee Valley the previous month.

While the Ben, JD & Will Hayes-trained gelding is a proven top level performer, barrier nine isn’t ideal.

ATTRITION, a tactically versatile colt, is preferred here with improvement expected having made just the six previous starts.

The selection resumed in his last spell with a near three-length victory in a maiden race over 1400m at Sandown Lakeside in January.

A Benchmark 64 handicap triumph followed prior to two good efforts in finishing close up in Group company.

The second of those efforts saw the son of Churchill lose out by a head in the Group 1 Australian Guineas over 1600m at Flemington and, dropping back in distance, he is taken to resume with a win.

Kristilli for Silver success

The Group 2 1200m Silver Shadow Stakes is the highlight for three-year-old fillies on the Randwick card.

The Annabel Neasham-trained KRISTILLI is selected to deliver her second win in three career starts having shown good form in her first spell.

The selection debuted with a good second having jumped at big odds for an 1100m handicap on a good 4 track at Randwick Kensington.

The daughter of Hellbent caught the eye in coming from off the pace to be beaten by less than two lengths on that occasion.

The pick duly went one better when saluting by nearly two lengths in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes over this course and distance in April.

Notably that Percy Sykes triumph came in similar underfoot conditions to those forecast here and she is taken to resume with a victory.
