Australian Racing: Tim's Principal can give rivals a lesson

There are two meetings set to take place on Tuesday with a good 4 track forecast for both Gosford and Mornington.

Race 2 Gosford

Silent Raindrops @ 4.20

Race 7 Gosford

Tim’s Principal @ 7.00

Race 7 Mornington

Our Goddess @ 6.50

Raindrops to upset favourite

The second race at Gosford is an interesting Benchmark 64 handicap set to take place over 1200m.

The race, restricted to fillies & mares, will see eight go to post with the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Yankee One expected to jump at short odds.

The filly made the perfect start to her career when saluting by one-and-a-half-lengths on a soft 6 track when contesting an 1100m maiden at Gosford on 26th October.

While the daughter of Snitzel should have no issues with the quicker going here, she tackles some solid looking rivals including SILENT RAINDROPS, who is taken to upset the favourite here.

Trained by Joseph Pride, the pick broke her maiden with a one-and-a-half-length victory in a 1200m maiden at Wyong in April.

The selection proved that she can be competitive in metro events subsequently, including when beaten narrowly as the runner-up in a 1300m Benchmark 68 handicap at Randwick Kensington.

The four-year-old also placed second at Warwick Farm in May and, while she has taken a few starts to come to hand this time around, she took a step forward when third at this track last time.

The daughter of Sebring was beaten less than half-a-length when third in a similar race to this on that occasion and she is taken to double her career tally with Sam Clipperton booked to ride.

Principal to complete double

The concluding race at Gosford is expected to see Kadall jump as favourite, having shown ability in his two starts as a two-year-old earlier this year.

Those two starts include a narrow victory in a maiden over 1400m at Kembla Grange at the start of July and, while open to improvement, he may find one too good here.

Jeremy Gask saddles the veteran TIM’S PRINCIPAL in this contest and, while the gelding has a wide barrier here, that should prove no issue given he is often ridden from off the pace.

The 10-year-old built on some good placed efforts in recent months when saluting by nearly a length in a similar race to this held on a good 4 track over course and distance on 2nd November.

Any softening of the going should prove no issue for the son of Denman, given he performed well when third on a soft 6 track at Scone prior.

Jockey Sarah McDonough, on board at Scone, is back in the saddle here and her four kilogram claim should prove helpful in this event.

Goddess for Mornington glory

Over at Mornington, top weight Cool Heart is expected to have her supporters, having broken her maiden by a length when contesting a 1000m maiden here last month.

The filly raced on a good 4 track that day and is expected to encounter similar underfoot conditions here.

Clinton McDonald is on the cold list at present, however he can boast an impressive 36% strike-rate (4/11) with his runners here in the last 12 months.

The handler saddles OUR GODDESS here and, while she hasn’t been in the best of form of late, she is the winner of her only previous start at this track.

That victory came in a maiden over 1000m here in January and, while she failed to shine when ninth over 1115m at Kyneton on 24th October, she began awkwardly and had no cover from a wide alley.

The five-year-old should have no such issues from barrier two here and she looks capable of taking this event.
