NRL: Titans need to snap losing streak

Gold Coast Titans will be desperate to snap a three-game losing streak when they take on Wests Tigers in the opening game of round 15 on Thursday night.

The Titans are on a poor run of form at the moment but still find themselves three places and four points above the Tigers heading into the game.

Thankfully for both the Titans and Tigers, they are still in touch with the top eight, due to the ladder being so tight, and have chance to play finals this season.

The games are ticking away however and we are at the halfway point of the 2023 NRL campaign already. It is important that these two sides start to hit some form and keep it consistent if they are to have a chance of extending their seasons. Making Thursday’s night clash on the Gold Coast even more important.

Fade-outs costing Titans

The Titans have lost the last three games on the bounce against the Knights, Bulldogs and Rabbitohs and it is their second-half fade-outs that continue to haunt them.

It has been an issue throughout the season and was on show again at the weekend when they slipped to a 46-28 defeat against South Sydney.

Justin Holbrook’s men were actually leading 22-16 at the break before falling apart in the second half of the game.

They are back on home soil against the Tigers and will be out to make amends against a side they have already beaten once this season.

That was way back in round one when they won 22-10 at Leichhardt Oval. The Titans have lost on two occasions at Cbus Super Stadium this season.

As well as the defeat to the Rabbitohs, they also lost against the Broncos. The clash with the Tigers will be seen as must-win, but they will have to do it without Kieran Foran, who is still missing with a toe injury.

Same again for Tigers

The Tigers have made great strides over the last five weeks following a horror start to the 2023 campaign. Tim Sheens’ men have won three out of the last five games and can count themselves unlucky to lose by a point against Canberra Raiders in the last game.

They showed what they are capable of with a 66-18 win over the Cowboys in the game before and have also beaten the Dragons and Panthers.

Wests Tigers will also view the game as an opportunity to keep their recent revival going and after beating Penrith 12-8, they have shown they can get the job done on the road.

Sheens has the advantage of being able to keep a settled side. Api Koroisau played 58 minutes from the bench against the Raiders on Friday night, just 48 hours after State of Origin.

The Tigers skipper will be in from the start on the Gold Coast and will be pivotal to their chances. If the Tigers are to get the win, it is likely to be a tight game and they can be backed at 6.50 to win by 1-5 points.
