NRL: Titans to make it tough for Cowboys

North Queensland Cowboys will be looking to make up ground on the top eight when they head to the Gold Coast to take on the Titans on Sunday.

The Cowboys have had a disappointing start to the 2024 season, winning just four of their nine games, and they need to pick up number five on Sunday.

They can be backed at 41.00 to win the grand final, but that seems out of reach at the moment and a place in the top eight is the first goal.

The Titans have won just one game all season, but there were some positive signs as they ran Melbourne Storm close before losing by just two points last week.

Gold Coast will be hoping for some home comforts and have a good record against the Cowboys at Cbus Super Stadium.

It means the Cowboys will have to be on their game to leave with the two points.

. What: Gold Coast Titans v North Queensland Cowboys
. Where: Cbus Super Stadium, Gold Coast
. When: 17:05, Sunday 12th May 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Gold Coast Titans 2.25, North Queensland Cowboys 1.65

Titans showing positive signs

It has been a tough start to Des Hasler’s time as Gold Coast coach, but there have been some positive signs in the last couple of games.

The Titans managed to upset the Warriors on Anzac Day to get their first win of the season and then ran the mighty Storm close last week.

They came up short by just two points, but can take the positives into the clash against the Cowboys.

The Gold Coast backline has been looking good in the last few weeks, with AJ Brimson in particular standing out.

Brimson also has a good record against the Cowboys, scoring eight tries in 11 games against them and the fullback is priced at 3.00 to score again at anytime.

The Titans have beaten the Cowboys in three of the last four games at Cbus Super Stadium and, if they do it again, it is likely to be close.

Their last four games have been very close, with no more than four points separating the two sides.

With that in mind they can be backed at 7.00 to win Sunday’s clash by 1-5 points.

Cowboys also need a victory

North Queensland are also in need of two points after losing the last two games.

They will be very disappointed with the way they surrendered a 10-0 lead against the Dolphins before losing 28-26 last weekend.

Errors are costing the Cowboys badly and they need to cut them out if they are to play finals in 2024.

They can take hope from the fact they have already beaten the Titans once this season - in round five they came out on top 25-22.

Heading to the Gold Coast is a tougher test, but they can be backed at 3.40 to win by 1-12 points.

Jeremiah Nanai could also be a player to look out for as he looks to keep his try-scoring run going.

The second-rower has crossed four times in his last four games and is priced at 2.50 to score at anytime.
