Australian Racing: Titration taken to deny Crockett

There is racing action from Dubbo and Balaklava on Monday and we have three selections from across those two meetings.

Race 4 Dubbo

Titration @ 3.80

Race 6 Dubbo

Interventionist @ 5.50

Race 5 Balaklava

Starlite Rebel @ 5.00

Titration tipped for Dubbo win

The fourth race on the card at Dubbo is a competitive looking 1600m Benchmark 66 handicap over 1600m.

Trainer Cameron Crockett looks to hold a strong hand here, with the handler set to saddle four of the 10 runners.

Those entries include Leica Storm, who has been in good form so far this spell, winning once and placing twice from his three starts this time around.

The win came when contesting a 1400m Benchmark 58 handicap on a good 4 track at Coonamble on his penultimate start.

The four-year-old followed that up with a narrow defeat when racing over the same trip in a similar event on a wet track at Tamworth on 8th January.

However, this looks a tougher contest and, jumping one barrier to his outside, his stablemate TITRATION is preferred.

The gelding tracked the speed when making a winning return to action in an 1100m Benchmark 58 handicap held on a soft 7 track at Mudgee at the start of December.

The 3.80 selection proved that a sound surface is no inconvenience when losing out narrowly when racing in a 1200m Benchmark 66 handicap on a good 3 at Coonamble later that month.

The six-year-old put a disappointing effort at Tamworth behind him when third over 1400m at Armidale on 29th January and he is taken to deliver a victory stepping up in trip.

Interventionist set for first up success

The sixth race of the day at Dubbo is a competitive looking Benchmark 58 handicap, with Rubi Air expected to have her supporters having won twice already this spell.

The five-year-old raced from the front when delivering a victory in a 1200m Benchmark 58 handicap on a good 4 track at Cowra last month, having also won at Narromine.

While the mare was ridden from behind the speed at Narromine, she may well have difficulty getting a prominent early position from barrier 18.

With that in mind, preference here is for INTERVENTIONIST, who showed a liking for this track when coming from off the pace to salute by two lengths over 1600m here in September.

The son of Dundeel raced in a Class 1 set weights event that day and made a quick reappearance when turning out in a Class 1 handicap at Bathurst five days later.

The 5.50 gelding won by a narrow margin when racing closer to the speed at Bathurst, with both of those efforts coming on a sound surface.

While Ronald Simpson’s mount failed to beat a rival home when racing over 1200m first up at Kembla Grange in his last spell, he was beaten less than two lengths that day.

Michael Mulholland’s gelding is expected to be sharp for his return to action and is selected to resume with a victory.

Rebel for Balaklava success

The fifth race on the Balaklava card is a Restricted 56 handicap restricted to fillies and mares.

STARLITE REBEL is taken to deliver a victory in the 1200m contest, having registered her most recent success in a Class 1 handicap over this trip at Strathalbyn in December.

The five-year-old triumphed on a soft 7 track that day and should have no issue with the good 4 track expected here, having twice placed second on good going since.

The second of those efforts saw her lose out by less than half-a-length in a 1215m Benchmark 56 handicap on a good 3 surface at Kingscote last month.

The 5.00 selection is tactically versatile and, with Caitlyn Munro taking three kilograms off her back, she looks up to registering her second win this spell.
