The Toorak Handicap is held in October each year and takes place on Caulfield Guineas Day.

That is the first day of the Melbourne Racing Club Spring Carnival and in 2024 will be held on Saturday 12th October.

The exact time of the Toorak Handicap has yet to be announced, but in 2023 it was Race 10 on a bumper card and it is likely to be the same in 2024.

The Toorak Handicap has been raced at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne, since the race's inception.

However, it was held at Flemington Racecourse for a brief spell during World War II.

The Toorak Handicap has a long and proud history and was first raced way back in 1886. It was initially a Principal Race and was won by a horse named Middlemarch.

The Toorak Handicap was upgraded to Group 1 status in 1979 and has remained that way ever since.

Attrition won the 2023 edition of the Toorak Handicap for trainer Mitchell Freedman and jockey Beau Mertens.

The horse that has dominated the Toorak Handicap most in recent times is Solzhenitsyn, who went back-to-back in 2012 and 2013.

The last mare to win the Toorak Handicap was More Joyous in 2010.
