NRL: Top eight on the line for Bulldogs

Canterbury Bulldogs and New Zealand Warriors will be aiming to keep their top eight hopes alive when they clash at Accor Stadium on Friday.

Most of the focus will be on the Penrith Panthers and Sydney Roosters, who also clash on Friday, but the opening game of the day has a lot riding on it.

Both sides have shown flashes of quality so far this season, but consistency has been an issue, and they will need to find some if they are to play finals.

It is still very early days and the ladder is that tight it will only take a couple of wins to get you shooting up it. However, neither can leave it too late.

That will be the aim for the Bulldogs and Warriors, but of course there can only be one winner on Friday evening.

The clash is a tough one to call and could go either way, but a close, exciting game looks to be on the cards.

The Bulldogs made an encouraging start to the 2023 campaign when winning three of the opening four games, but the bubble has since burst.

They have managed just one win in the last five games and find themselves in 15th spot on the ladder with plenty of work to do to get near the top eight.

In fairness they have been hit by a horror run of injuries, but they will still be disappointed with where they find themselves on the ladder.

Cameron Ciraldo’s men did pick up a morale-boosting win over the Dragons but then failed to back it up in the Magic Round, losing by four points against the Canberra Raiders.

It is important they bounce back and will be hoping home advantage can work in their favour. These two sides have already met once this season and it was the Warriors that came out on top at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland.

It was a narrow 16-14 win and the Bulldogs were left kicking themselves as they felt they had enough chances to win it. They now get the chance for revenge at Accor Stadium.

The Bulldogs are handed a massive boost with the news that one of their star men can return from injury.

Winger Josh Addo-Carr has recovered from the ankle injury that has forced him out of the last four games and the Foxx is priced at 2.15 to score at anytime. The Bulldogs ace has scored 20 tries in his last 17 games at Accor Stadium.

Warriors must snap losing streak

The Warriors also got the season off to a flyer when winning four of the opening five games, but like the Bulldogs they have gone off the boil since then.

They have lost the last three games on the bounce against the Storm, Roosters and Panthers, and need to stop the rot quickly.

Andrew Webster’s side were looking good for the top eight, and although they are still in the mix, they need to return to winning ways as soon as possible.

They can take heart from the fact they have beaten the Bulldogs in each of the last five games and seem to have their number.

Canterbury have also conceded 83 points in their last two games at Accor Stadium, and that will be something the Warriors will be out to exploit.

The Warriors will be missing Jackson Ford and Edward Kosi who suffered head and knee injuries respectively against the Panthers last week.
