Aussie Rules: Top trio in action on Super Sunday

Three of the top five are in action on Sunday when Essendon take on Geelong, while surprise-package Adelaide entertain Collingwood.

In the other game on Sunday afternoon Richmond take on the Gold Coast looking to kick-start their season and get pushing towards the top eight.

It is the Bombers who get the action underway when they take on Geelong at the MCG in a game that has all the ingredients to be a tight, closely-fought battle.

Essendon were just edged out by Collingwood in an Anzac Day thriller and will be keen to bounce back against a Geelong side that are starting to find their form.

The final game of the day will be interesting to say the least, as Adelaide look to make it five wins on the bounce against joint-leaders Collingwood.

It will be the biggest test yet for the Crows, but they are formidable opposition these days, especially at home, and the Pies have work to do to get the job done.

Essendon were involved in a thriller against Collingwood on Anzac Day, but will be kicking themselves for letting a convincing lead slip away.

However there were still plenty of positives for Brad Scott’s side to take out of the game and they will be out to bounce back against the reigning premiers.

The Bombers are up to fourth on the ladder, and their recent win over Melbourne and the way they took Collingwood to the wire, suggests they will return to finals this year and could even be top-four contenders.

Geelong started the season in disastrous fashion with three straight defeats, but have since turned things around with three straight wins.

They smashed Sydney by 93 points on Saturday and now need to back it up with another win against Essendon.

Geelong will be missing Cam Guthrie through injury in their only change from last week, while Essendon will hand a rest to Dyson Heppell.

Both Richmond and Gold Coast entered the season with high hopes, but so far they have failed to produce the goods.

Richmond were hoping to get back among the top four after winning three premierships recently, but at this rate they will do well to make top eight.

The Tigers have just the one win to their name and that came against Adelaide in round two. They have since lost four on the bounce and need to find some form quickly.

With Geelong and Essendon on the horizon the game against the Gold Coast is even more important.

The Suns also set out with high ambitions, with getting closer to the eight and potentially playing finals the goal.

They have performed slightly better than the Tigers and have two wins to their name, the last one being a 43-point win over North Melbourne.

Touk Miller is missing for the Gold Coast through injury, while the Tigers will also manage Dion Prestia. Ruckman Ivan Soldo does return from a foot injury however.

We could be saving the best until last on Sunday, with Adelaide and Collingwood set to go head-to-head in an intriguing clash at the Adelaide Oval.

The Crows are proving the doubters wrong when moving to fifth on the ladder thanks to four wins on the bounce.

However, now the real test comes with games against Geelong and St Kilda to follow the Collingwood clash.

Adelaide have shown they have nothing to fear and Matthew Nicks and his side will be looking forward to the challenge.

Collingwood showed their metal with a great comeback win over Essendon and look sure to be in the mix at the end of the season.

Their one defeat this season did come on the road at Brisbane and they will be keen to suffer no travel sickness in Adelaide.
