With NRL’s regular season edging towards a dramatic conclusion in the fight for the top eight, the year’s top tryscorer battle looks like it will also go down to the wire.
With three players level at the top of the standings on 21 tries, here’s a look at the try machines in contention to finish top of the pile this season.
The current favourite in the Top Tryscorer market at 2.25, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is one of the players who has touched down on 21 occasions already this season.
The Warriors are enjoying an impressive campaign and find themselves in third place in the standings ahead of the next round of matches.
Utility back Watene-Zelezniak has been thriving in this Warriors side since making the switch from the Canterbury Bulldogs in 2021.
With regular season games to come against St. George Illawarra Dragons and the Dolphins, Watene-Zelezniak has a couple more opportunities to add to his tally and he will be fully expected to do so given his current form.
Another player on 21 tries for the season, fellow New Zealander Jamayne Isaako has also been impressing for the Dolphins this year.
The 27-year-old is enjoying one of his best individual seasons in the NRL but unfortunately for the Dolphins, they will not be finishing in the top eight this term.
Down in 14th place in the standings, the Dolphins don’t have enough time to make up ground and will already have one eye on next season in the NRL.
The Dolphins also have two matches remaining against the Cowboys and Watene-Zelezniak’s Warriors, with that final game potentially playing a significant role in deciding the season’s top tryscorer.
Isaako is currently 4.00 to finish top of the pile.
The third and final player also on 21 tries for the season is South Sydney Rabbitohs star Alex Johnston, who is out at 13.00 to finish top tryscorer for the campaign.
Souths only have one match of the regular season remaining against rivals Sydney Roosters and one less game means Johnston will have to bag a couple of tries to have a chance of finishing top of the pile.
England international Dominic Young has enjoyed an impressive year for club and country and currently sits on 20 tries going into the Newcastle Knight’s last two games.
The 22-year-old winger has helped the Knights move up to seventh place in the standings with two games remaining against the Cronulla Sharks and the Dragons.
Already confirmed to be joining the Roosters for next season in the NRL, the Yorkshireman will be eager to finish off his time with the Knights on a high over the coming weeks.
Young is currently available at 6.00 to leapfrog the likes of Watene-Zelezniak, Isaako and Johnston to finish top of the tryscorer pile.
