Top 5 young Australians to watch out for in 2024

2024 is just around the corner and it is shaping up to be a big year for some of Australia's top young sports stars.

Australia consistently produces some of the world’s greatest athletes in all sports and 2024 looks set to be no different.

Here are five young Aussies to look out for in 2024.

Oscar Piastri

Oscar Piastri is a Formula 1 rookie, but he has already made a big noise in the paddock, impressing as the team-mate of Lando Norris at McLaren.

Two podium finishes have already been secured in 2023 and there seems little doubt that a big future lies ahead for Piastri.

He has already put pen to paper on a contract extension which runs until the end of the 2026 season and it is exciting times for the 22-year-old, who was born in Melbourne.

Much will of course depend on McLaren and if they can make improvements to their car, but Piastri is definitely one to keep an eye on in 2024.

Josh Giddey

Regarded as one of Australia’s top young talents, the boy from Melbourne continues to catch the eye in the NBA.

Josh Giddey exceeded all expectations in his first two seasons and continues to ply his trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In the 2023/24 campaign, the 21-year-old has not quite reached the same heights, but there is plenty of time for him to turn things around.

2024 could still turn out to be a big year for Giddey and he will be one to watch.

The OKC Thunder can be backed at 61.00 to win the NBA Championship 2023/24.

Sam Walsh

Sam Walsh had a great season for Carlton as they returned to AFL finals in 2023 and he was actually voted player of the AFL finals series.

If he can stay injury free, the prolific ball-winner looks set for a big 2024 and is sure to be in the mix for the 2024 Brownlow Medal and can be backed at 13.00.

Carlton had a great end to the season and Walsh was instrumental to that after returning from a hamstring injury.

The Blues will look to kick on in 2024 and can be backed at 9.00 to win the grand final.

Jacob Preston

The 2023 NRL season was another disappointing one for the Canterbury Bulldogs, but there was one bright spark in the form of Jacob Preston.

The talented rookie was one of the highlights for the club as the back-rower had a big impact, and was a virtual ever-present until copping a suspension late in the season.

The 21-year-old still managed 20 appearances, making 760 tackles and chipping in with six tries.

Preston looks sure to grow in 2024 and be a big hit for the Bulldogs, who are priced at 41.00 to win the NRL grand final.

There will be heaps of talent in the NRL in 2024, but Preston will definitely be one of the ones to watch.

Henry Hunt

The South Australian opening batter continues to showcase his talent in the Sheffield Shield and is a contender to replace David Warner in the Australian Test side.

Hunt currently sits behind Marcus Harris, Cameron Bancroft and Matt Renshaw in the Australian pecking order.

However, if he can string together a few more big innings in the Sheffield Shield, he could move himself up it and closer to Test selection.

2024 is a big year for Hunt and he is one to keep an eye on. He will also be looking to star in the Big Bash League for the Adelaide Strikers, who are priced at 7.50 to go all the way.
