There are three Grand Tours on the cycling calendar, and the Tour de France is undoubtedly the biggest and most famous.
It takes place in July each year, when the finest cyclists the sport has to offer, will battle it out on the roads of France over 21 gruelling stages.

The 2025 edition of the Tour de France is set to begin on Saturday 5th July and will conclude on Sunday 27th July.
The route for the 2025 Tour de France has yet to be fully announced and is still a work in progress.
However, the opening three stages have been announced and for the first time in three years the Grand Depart is back in France.
The Tour de France will begin in the Hauts-de-France region in the north of the country. Stage 1 will begin and end in Lille and is set to be a flat stage that will end in a bunch sprint.
Stage 2 will cover 209km from Lauwin-Planque to Boulogne-sur-Mer and will involve some climbs along the way.
Stage 3 will again be flat and one for the sprinters. It will begin in Valenciennes and cover 172km before finishing in Dunkirk.

Four cyclists share the honour of winning the Tour de France on the most occasions.
They are Jacques Anquetil, Eddie Merckx, Bernard Hinaut and Miguel Indurain, who all won the Tour de France on five occasions.
Chris Froome fell just short of joining them, winning the Tour de France four times.
