Tour of Flanders 2024: Date, location, history, how to watch and odds

The Tour of Flanders is a UCI World Tour one-day professional road race that takes place in Flanders, Belgium, every spring.

It is one of the ‘five monuments’ that are raced throughout the year along with Milan-San Remo, Paris Roubaix, Liege-Bastogne-Liege and Giro di Lombardia.

The Tour of Flanders is one of the two major ‘cobbled’ classics, along with Paris Roubaix, and also goes by the name of Ronde van Vlaanderen.

It is a race that has a long and proud tradition, and is viewed as the most important race on the cycling calendar to the Flemish people in Flanders.

The Tour of Flanders was first raced in 1913 and was won by a Belgium rider by the name of Paul Deman.

Tom Simpson was the first rider from Great Britain to win the Tour of Flanders in 1961, while Tadej Pogacar took out the 2023 edition.

Here is all you need to know about Tour of Flanders.

Tour of Flanders date

The 2024 edition of the Tour of Flanders will take place on Sunday 31st March, which is exactly one week before Paris-Roubaix.

It is the second of the five monuments, with Milan-San Remo being the first on the calendar.

Tour of Flanders route

There have been several tweaks to the Tour of Flanders route over the years, and the 2024 edition will be no different.

This year the Tour of Flanders will begin in Antwerp after the 2023 edition started in Bruges.

Since 2012 the latter part of the race has consisted of three loops of the Flemish Ardennes, which is a hilly region in the east of Flanders.

This will remain the case in 2024 and the riders will have to tackle some gruelling climbs, including the infamous Paterberg and Oude Kwaremont.

The latter is the longest climb at 2.2km, but the cobbled surface makes it even harder.

The final stretch to the finish is flat, and when the riders cross the finish line they will have completed 265km.
