UEFA Europa League: Spurs out to maintain perfect start

Having won their opening two games in the UEFA Europa League, Tottenham Hotspur will be eager to maintain their perfect start to the competition when they host AZ Alkmaar on Friday morning.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have been hit-and-miss at times in the Premier League this season but they have been consistent in Europe, winning their opening two games against Qarabag at home and Ferencvaros in Hungary.

Back in the home comforts of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs will be hoping to make it three wins from three on Friday and further push their claims for a place in the UEFA Europa League knockout stages.

Spurs can build on Hammers win

The Lilywhites impressed on their return after the recent international break, as they earned a 4-1 win at home to London rivals West Ham United.

Going a goal behind in the 18th minute, Spurs responded to secure the three points and can now go into this game against AZ with confidence.

Postecoglou will look to shake things up in terms of selection, especially with Spurs back in action three days later in the Premier League with a trip to Crystal Palace.

Wilson Odobert and Djed Spence are both injured ahead of Friday and would have been involved in Postecoglou’s plans.

Pedro Porro is due a rest, while Radu Dragusin is set for a return after sitting out the Ferencvaros win due to suspension.

Spurs are heavy favourites to make it three wins from three, with the hosts 1.42 to claim all three points in north London.

AZ eying an upset

Currently 6.50 to earn a surprise win in the English capital, AZ Alkmaar go into this game on a miserable run of form.

Having gone unbeaten in their opening seven games of the season, the Eredivisie outfit have gone on to lose all of their last four games.

A lack of goals has been a real issue for the Dutch outfit, scoring just two times in those last four outings.

With that in mind, a Spurs win to nil is currently available at 2.75 in this UEFA Europa League clash.

Friday gives an opportunity for Troy Parrott to try and get one over his former employers, having only just left Spurs to start a new chapter in the Netherlands.

Parrott is 3.25 in the anytime goalscorer market, while the Republic of Ireland international is 8.50 to score the opening goal of the game.
