Premier League: Aston Villa a major hurdle for stumbling Spurs

The honeymoon period looks to be over for Ange Postecoglou and he is in desperate need of a win when Tottenham take on Aston Villa in the early hours of Monday morning.

Everything had been rosy in the Spurs garden over the opening 10 games of the Premier League season, but back-to-back defeats have stopped them in their tracks.

Tottenham currently sit fourth on the ladder and can be backed at 2.25 to finish inside the top four, but they need to stop the rot quickly.

Villa are currently in fifth and could jump above Spurs with a win, so Sunday’s game in North London is massive.

Tottenham’s first defeat of the season against Chelsea would not have concerned many, considering they played much of the game with nine men.

However, the loss against Wolves before the international break was a big setback, as they conceded two goals in stoppage time to succumb 2-1.

A win over Villa on home turf will get them back on track and it is the first of two tough games, with a trip to Manchester City coming up the week after.

Big Ange for his part is keeping cool. He refused to get carried away when Tottenham were flying, and he is not panicking now they have lost back-to-back games.

He says now is the time to show what the new Tottenham is all about, and all eyes will be on them to see how they respond against Villa.

Like Spurs, the Villans have started well and have been scoring goals for fun. They put six past Brighton, four past West Ham and three past both Luton and Fulham.

Tottenham love to attack and have scored 24 goals themselves, so we could be in for a high-scoring encounter.

Both teams to score can be backed at 1.44, while over 2.5 goals in the game is also available at 1.50.

Son Heung-Min has eight goals for Spurs already this season and can be backed at 2.50 to score at anytime, while Ollie Watkins is also a big threat for Villa.

As well as scoring six goals this season, he has also chipped in with five assists and is priced at 6.50 to score the first goal.

City and Reds face showpiece showdown

The game of the weekend sees the top two go head-to-head when Manchester City host Liverpool.

City sit top of the pile, just one point ahead of the Reds, and can be backed at 1.70 to pick up the three points.

Liverpool have lost just the one game this season, but have also drawn three. They would no doubt settle for a point again in this clash and the draw is available at 4.20.

Citizens strike ace Erling Haaland bagged a brace in the 4-4 draw against Chelsea before the break and can be backed at 3.60 to score the first of the game at the Etihad.

Again, we could be in for goals galore and over 2.5 is priced at 1.47.
