A-League transfer update: Wanderers pull off Mata coup

The new A-League season is just one month away and one of the biggest transfers in the history of the competition has been completed.

Western Sydney Wanderers have pulled off a massive coup by luring former Manchester United and Chelsea star Juan Mata to the club.

It is a huge statement of intent from the Wanderers, who can be backed at 7.00 to go on and win the grand final, but they are not the only club making moves in the transfer market.

Mata adds quality to Wanderers roster

The capture of former Spain midfielder Mata is one of the biggest signings in the history of the A-League and should give the whole competition a lift.

Mata has won all there is to win in the game and the 36-year-old will now bring his attacking talent to the A-League.

The Spanish ace last played in Japan with Vissel Kobe and says that he is fit and raring to go ahead of a new challenge.

Wanderers missed out on finals last season, but with Mata on board they will be hoping to make a serious push for grand final glory.

New head coach Alen Stajcic has hailed the signing of Mata, labelling it as ‘priceless’.

Costa offers winning mentality for Sky Blues

Mata will not be the only world superstar plying his trade in Sydney this season, after Sydney FC also completed the signing of Douglas Costa.

The 33-year-old won three Serie A titles playing for Italian giants Juventus, while he has also represented Bayern Munich.

The winger has 31 international caps for Brazil, playing alongside the likes of Neymar and his signing is a huge coup for the club.

At 33 Costa still has some of his best football ahead of him and the Sky Blues will hope he can help bring some silverware to the club.

Sydney FC are priced at 7.00 to go on and win the 2024/25 A-League grand final.

Caicedo brings flair to new-look Glory

Perth Glory are hoping for brighter times in the season ahead and have snapped up Colombian winger Cristian Caicedo.

The 22-year-old winger is blessed with pace and flair and Glory predict he will terrorise opposition defences this season.

Glory will be desperate to climb the ladder this season and play some finals football. They can be backed at 4.00 to make the top six and have a completely new-look squad for the season ahead.

A total of 14 players have now been brought in, including Ecuador international defender Luis Canga.

Former skipper Brandon O’Neill is also back in Perth and the future for Glory could be a bright one.
