Australian Racing: Windshadow ready to take flight

There are four meetings due to take place on Thursday - including two in New South Wales where Wyong and Nowra are both set to race.

Race 7 Wyong

Windshadow @ 3.60

Race 3 Gatton

Chance With Wolves @ 2.30

Race 7 Nowra

Kingdom Of Logres @ 3.40

Windshadow expected to fly

The penultimate race on Wyong’s eight-race card is a competitive looking 1350m Benchmark 64 handicap.

Top weight WINDSHADOW at 3.60 is selected here having been given an inside alley for the race, which is set to take place on a soft 6 track.

Trained by Ciaron Maher & David Eustace, the gelding demonstrated that he handles this track when runner-up in an 1100m maiden here in December.

The son of Redoute’s Choice went on to deliver a highly creditable fifth when beaten two lengths in the Magic Millions Maiden Plate over 1200m at Gold Coast two weeks later.

The pick broke his maiden on a wet track at Canterbury in February and it’s of note that that contest is working out particularly well, with four of the five horses in behind winning in the interim period.

The four-year-old was spelled following that Canterbury triumph and looks up to going one better than when runner-up in a 1200m Class 1 contest at Kembla Grange last month.

Wolves has major Chance

Flawless Ambition is expected to prove popular with punters ahead of the third at Gatton.

The race in question is a 1600m maiden handicap set to take place on a heavy 9 track.

Trained by Natalie McCall, the gelding has placed on each of his last three starts including having been freshened prior to a half-length third over 1550m at Murwillumbah last month.

That Murwillumbah effort came on a heavy 9 surface, though the quicker ground here should prove no issue having gone well on good and soft tracks in the past.

Barrier 10 is expected to prove more of an issue given he has gone from the front in two of his last three starts and he looks opposable here.

CHANCE WITH WOLVES demonstrated that a first victory might not be too far away when a close second over 1400m in a maiden handicap over 1400m at Sunshine Coast on his penultimate start.

The gelding followed that up with a solid fourth when beaten just over three lengths in a 1640m maiden event at Doomben just over a week ago.

Barrier nine should prove no issue here, given the four-year-old has gone well from off the pace in the past, and he is taken at 2.30 to deliver a first victory in a race that appears to lack depth.

King ready to rule at Nowra

The concluding race on the Nowra card is a Benchmark 66 contest due to be held on a soft 6 track over 1600m.

Pioneer Lass won for the Matthew Smith stable when successful by nearly two lengths in an 1800m Class 1 contest at Nowra on her penultimate start.

A close-up fifth over this trip when racing at Benchmark 64 level at Wyong followed three weeks ago and, while she arrives in good form, she is expected to find 3.40 KINGDOM OF LOGRES hard to beat.

The three-year-old demonstrated good form in his first spell racing, breaking his maiden by half-length victory in a maiden plate over 1610m on a soft 6 track at Orange at the second attempt.

A step up in distance followed for Annabel Neasham’s colt with the selection going on to deliver an impressive victory at Benchmark 58 level when upped to 2000m at Bathurst 12 days later.

Off the track since that Bathurst outing in February, he arrives here on the back of a couple of trial efforts and is selected to continue his progression by completing a hat-trick.
