The year's third major is almost upon us, and Jason Sobel has had a look at the contenders for the 2023 US Open.
Notoriously played on courses with narrow fairly, penal rough and lightning quick greens, the US Open is perhaps the toughest test a golfer will face all year.
Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick prevailed last year at Brookline with a dramatic par on the final hole after finding a fairway bunker off the tee, with Jon Rahm finally breaking his major duck with a come-from-behind win over Louis Oosthuizen.
Scottie Scheffler is clear favourite this week, with Rahm going off at an unusually high 10/1 after a T50 at the PGA Championship and a T16 at the Memorial before skipping last week's Canadian Open.
Scheffler meanwhile is playing a level of golf hardly seen since Tiger Woods's day. His tee-to-green game is off the charts, only to be let down by an ice-cold putter, not finishing outside the top 12 in his last 16 events.
Winning scores are typically single digits under par, and an over-par winner is not unheard of.
Jason Sobel takes a look at the challenges LA Country Club will pose, and offers up his picks for the week.
